Solar Farms and Landowner Caution

To The Editor:

While no one can complain about new technologies it should be noted that these solar farms require considerable acreage to yield the wattage that will yield profits.

Some would raise a cheer to the innovators of cleaner energy, it should be noted that large projects do get sold off as profits dwindle. Just like any other energy extraction from one’s land, solar energy should be treated like oil and gas. A property owner’s own lawyer, versed in solar energy, should always be consulted before signing on the dotted line.

As profits decrease there is a tendency for the original owners to sell off the asset.

This is the case in the oil and gas industry and solar power is no different. There are many questions to be raised and put into the contract before anyone signs a contract.

Hopefully, a solar farm will meet the requirements of the power company and the land owner. The last thing a landowner would want are abandoned solar panels and destroyed land. Always getting a lawyer is the best defense.
