Rule of Law

To the Editor:

I’m very grateful that I was recently able to participate in the virtual Texas Republican Party Convention. Many were disenfranchised due to various IT snafus. The State Party leadership did not prepare for the vindictiveness of a Democratic mayor shutting down their convention arrangements. Preparing for a virtual convention obviously required much more time than the Republican Party leadership allowed. There were many aspects of the virtual meeting that were interesting, and I learned a lot.

In case you haven’t heard, Lt. Col. Allen West is the new GOP Chair of Texas.

The Monday edition of The Texas Tribune quoted Abhi Rahman, a Texas Democrat Party spokesperson, who said, “West is everything that is wrong with the Republican Party and brings to light their failures on building an inclusive, welcoming party that is deliberate and thoughtful in handling crisis situations.”

Abhi’s problem is, according to the Democratic Party agenda, Texas is “expected to be on the defensive in 2020”. Sadly for Abhi and his party, Mr. West and the Republican Party are on the offensive against the Democrat agenda.

Another quote from the same Texas Tribune article, “West told CBS DFW on Monday. “This is kind of a line-in-the-sand moment here in the great state of Texas. It’s very clear that you can stand on the side of the rule of law, or you can stand with the rule of the mob, and I think more people would rather stand with the rule of law.”

For the state of Texas and my country’s sake, I pray the rule of law will prevail.
