Round Top History

To the Editor:

I recently had some free time to go over past FCR newspapers I save due to special interest to me. I am on the board of the Round Top Area Historical Society and I saved this letter to the editor from Gene Hackemack regarding his experience in what he thought was the historical rental property on Hwy 237 where DSG nursery is located. He visited the store called Farmloft thinking it was the Historical Society rental. He summarized fond memories of this location and was dismayed to find that the owner had no interest at all in the history of the building. I can assure you that if he visited the property next door- DSG nursery he would have had a very different welcome.

Dee Golden and her associate Kelly are big supporters of Round Top and are big advocates for the history of this area. They could talk for hours about this community and is quite knowledgeable and willing to share that information. We have a great community and every citizen has been very supportive of the Round Top Area Historical Society. We welcome more letters like Gene Hackemack’s from you who have more stories about Round Top’s days gone by.

We are approaching our country’s 250th anniversary of this great nation and I think letters or even recorded history verbally information about our community would be a great addition to be portrayed by the Historical Society. If you have anything to share or contribute please contact me via email jburger@cvctx.com, phone number (281) 610-8274.
