Respect Lacking

To the Editor:

Mr. Mueller, your behavior towards Mr. Moreau was totally rude, disrespectful, and totally uncalled for, as well as unprofessional.

What you failed to realize was that as soon as you took your oath of office, you were Fayette County. You are the face of Fayette County.

You need to understand that you are not required to like Mr. Moreau. You are not required to keep him on staff. But acting as Fayette County, Mr. Moreau was as entitled to be treated with courtesy and respect as any other citizen of this county. Your behavior embarrassed all decent people in Fayette County who do know how to behave in public.

You had no call to embarrass Mr. Moreau in front of his family, his friends, and all the others in attendance at Sunday’s swearing in at the courthouse. This was very disgraceful behavior for a county leader, much less the judge, to engage in. Mr. Moreau, and all the rest of the decent people of Fayette County deserve better.

Is this who you are? Is this the sort of partisan treatment the citizens of Fayette County can look forward to? You claim your administration “will strive for cooperation and kindness.” Well guess what? Your administration started as soon as you took your oath of office. Therefore, your current behavior demonstrates that is not an accurate statement.

You should publicly apologize to Mr. Moreau.

Since I doubt this is the case, the decent citizens of this county--who know how to behave in public--will do it for you: Mr. Moreau, you deserved to be treated with courtesy and respect. We apologize that you were not.

Remember Mr. Mueller ... four years isn’t all that long.
