Public Education System is Broken
To the Editor:
Our education system doesn’t have to be this way. We are choosing to wait for instructions from Washington and Austin. We are waiting at the beck and call for others, who I do not think have our best interests at heart, to tell us how to educate our children.
What are we waiting for? Our education system has been the catalyst for the problems we see in today’s world since we took God and community out of it. This “experiment” of public education was broken before COVID. Could COVID be the blessing we need to bring God and community back into our children’s lives?
What are we waiting for? Community development starts with development of the most prized asset within a community - our children. The education infrastructure to introduce our children to God and their neighbors is already here. We just have to get behind them. Local programs like 4H, Turtle Wing, FFA, Pitch Rural, Greater Vision Team School, The Remnant Academy, Catholic schools, The Arts for Rural Texas, a growing number of Christian and non-Christian homeschool cooperatives and other organizations are more than equipped to prepare our youth for life.
What if our teachers taught under the umbrella of community organizations rather than instructions coming from Washington and Austin?
What if the school districts, community, and economic development initiatives began to look inward and trust ourselves? What if we began to work in unison and act?
What if we stopped spending community development resources on things that are not community development and invest in preparing our children for life?
Trust in our neighbors, stop waiting for handouts from the state, and the rewards may just surprise us. Reminds me of Matthew 6:33 “The thing you should want most is God’s Kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you.”
It is time to crawl together. When we begin to crawl together, we can begin to stand together as one. What are you waiting for? It is time to show up, speak up, and act. Please call or text me at (979) 966-3911 to find out when your next city council or school board meeting is.
