Praying for Damar

They all kneeled and prayed.
When Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during an NFL football game on Monday, January 2, 2023, his fellow team members became distraught. The entire team kneeled down and said a prayer for Damar. Pictures of their time in prayer were posted all over the news and social media.
For the following few days, news casters requested that people pray for Damar, his family and the Buffalo Bills. Prayer was mentioned over and over. It’s a little ironic that the liberal media wanted everyone to pray but prayer isn’t allowed in public schools and most of the time, prayer isn’t mentioned on the news.
The United States Supreme Court ruled in 1962 that school sponsored prayer in public schools be banned. Madeline Murray O’Hare filed several law suits that dealt with the First Amendment separation of church and state. She wanted to prohibit Bible reading in public schools as an unconstitutional activity. Students may pray privately and join Bible activities after school. This amendment pertains to public elementary, middle school and high school but does not pertain to parochial schools, colleges and universities. So, we don’t have prayer or bible readings in public schools but NFL players can kneel in prayer on the football field for the entire world to witness.
What a great example this team was and continues to be. They showed the world that prayer is beneficial and important. They showed that Christianity is present, that people still pray, and that we, as Americans, value prayer especially in this particular incident. It’s about time that this great country turns back to prayer. Look what it has done for Damar and his family. They felt the support through prayer. They felt the love through prayer. And, above all prayer worked a miracle – Damar is getting better and better each and every day. Prayers were answered.
It felt good for the entire United States and the rest of the world to come together to pray for Damar Hamlin. It felt good to know that something as simple as prayer would have such an effect on so many people but mainly Damar Hamlin. It felt good to see “Pray for Damar” on the video boards at the Great American Ballpark, home of the MLB Cincinnati Reds. It still feels good to know that so many people, once again, are praying.
