Praise for Sladek

To The Editor:

Someone recently shared with me an article by Ms. Elaine Thomas, that featured Mr. Erwin Sladek and his legacy in Fayette County, and in La Grange. It was with a great deal of pride that I read about my very good friend of so many years.

Erwin and I met over 40 years ago while we were taking our master’s degree classes at the University of Houston, Victoria. We were both in our twenties and ready to set the world on fire as school administrators. Many laughs have been shared about our common experiences as Principals, Superintendents, and in other educational roles.

After going in different directions for a few years, Erwin and I re-connected while I worked at the Education Service Center Region 13, where he now serves on the Board of Directors. It was such an honor to work not only with him again, but also with the School Board at LGISD. I have told more that a few school people that La Grange ISD and its board is one of the best in Texas.

Without reservation, I consider Erwin one of the finest, most wholesome, stand-up-for-what’s right people I have ever had the good fortune to call my friend. His work on behalf of the La Grange community that was highlighted in the well written article is but the tip of the iceberg of the number of people he has helped. Unknown to many is the times he has extended his helping hand to underprivileged students, has reached out to personal friends in times of need, and how highly he is respected by his superintendent peers across the region and state. Erwin has no hidden agenda; he is here to serve others.

Thank you, Ms. Thomas, for the article featuring my friend, Erwin Sladek. It has been such an honor and privilege for me that our paths crossed.
