Politics and Scripture
To the editor:
The title of last Friday’s letter to the editor, “Words to Live By,” suggested to the reader that character assignation, misinterpretation of Bible scripture, and misrepresentation of ‘foreigners’, represent “The Way, The Truth, and The Light”.
I emphatically disagree. John 14:6 from the Bible tells us: “Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” These are words to live by.
The Constitution of the United States Article IV, Section 4, states: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion:…”. The Biden administration’s promotion of an open borders policy did nothing to stop millions of ‘foreigners’, among whom were drug dealers, people traffickers, thieves, and murderers, from invading our country. These types of ‘foreigners’ have oppressed the American citizen and should be removed which is what Trump campaigned on, was elected to do, and is attempting to legally accomplish. It seems Mr. Mikus, Ms. Good, Mr. Pretti and every illegal immigrant have chosen to disregard “the way” of scriptural application. They could have considered Romans 13 regarding submission to governing authorities—specifically, American law and order. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can prove ‘inappropriate and dangerous’. The fact that Ms Good and Mr. Pretti put themselves in harms way resulted in unintended lethal circumstances.
By his own words, Mr. Mikus persecutes Trump while accusing Trump of persecuting ‘Hispanics and other people of color’ without evidence.
On the subject of justice I would refer Mr. Mikus to “the truth and light” of Ecclesiastes 3:15-17. “God will call the past to account. God will bring into judgement both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time to judge every deed.” (NIV)
