Of PINOs and RINOs
To The Editor:We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. – Abraham Lincoln An attempt was made on January 6, 2021 to subvert our Constitution and the peaceful transfer of power. Surprisingly, in letters to the editor, numerous citizens in our community remain supportive of the dreadful behavior of our past presidentand his lieutenants.Many state and federal courts adjudicated the various cynical attempts at altering election results, and in all cases the elections were upheld. Thirteen federal cases saw votes by 12 Trump appointed judges, and none of them found merit in the Big Lie. Election officials, whether Democrat or Republican, in all states confirmed theintegrity of the election.One of the first “supporting lies” for the Big Lie was the contention that more votes were cast than registered voters. Quite an easy assertion to check. If unwilling to do the addition, the Census Bureau does it for you – an easy “Google” to find the numbers. Plus, only 66.2% of citizens of voting age went to the polls. As a refresher, President Biden won by over 7 million popular votes, 51.6% of the totalto 46.8% for the Big Liar.The latest “supporting lie” of the Big Lie is Dinesh D’Souza’s leveraging of gullibility in order to harvest gold and silver – laughing all the way to the bank. Irresistible for the gullible given that all prior lies are discredited.
Politely, Arnold Romberg notes that Republicans need to look forward, not back. More than that, Republican leaders owe apologies for maliciously excusing Trump’s very bad behavior.
That Trump did some good things in office – such as pushing through the COVID-19 vaccines in record time – does not mean that we as Republicans make excuses for his crazy assaults on ethics, good manners, our Constitution, democracy and the peaceful transfer of power. According to the story, even Mussolini made trains run ontime.This year, the Republican Texas State Convention had aTea Party – A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The platform calls for abolishing the election of Senators by the people of Texas, and instead returning to the Legislature doing that. President Biden is called the “Acting President” and it says that he was not “legitimately elected.” The “crown jewel” is Plank 225 asking for a referendum for Texas to secede from the United States of America! We also had a presentation last year on secession at our own Fayette County Republican Party meeting.
Remembering that the Republican Party is the “Party of Lincoln” and its traditional trademark is saving the union and bonding a modern nation, it is easy to understand who are the RINOs. Putting it all together, the numerous lies, the Capitol assault, etc., clearly these Trump RINOs fall into a dangerous category as well – PINOs. A PINO is a “Patriot in Name Only”.
Listen to Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg: “… this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
Trump is twice impeached inhabiting historians’ lowest ranks. He rants against losers. Take his advice and shun him.
Let’s review. Lost the 2016 popular vote by 3.87 million but was elected due to the quirk of the Electoral College, and then lost by 7 million votes (Electoral College 306 to 232) against another weak candidate, plus lost both the House and the Senate. Never came close to convincing a majority of citizens that he belongs in the White House. Anyone who refuses to lie for him is immediately on his “hate list” and some willing hack liar receives his endorsement. That is a plan for failure.
The challenge for Republican Party members is to identify and support only honest, intelligent and hardworking candidates for elected office. A narcissist who daily convinces more of the electorate that he is a loser is unworthy of any support.
