Past Time to Pay Attention
To the editor:
I attended the La Grange City Council meeting on Feb. 9. My purpose in going was to get first-hand knowledge about the fairground issue, the hotel discussion, and to see what the City Manager, Jack Thompson, and the City Council members had to say about these issues. Most importantly, I was interested to see where the money for all of the grandiose plans Mr. Thompson is proposing would come from. Only two city council members even asked the question about where the money is going to come from. Interestingly, Mr. Thompson offered no information on the money issue when asked. Given the lack of funding information, one could surmise that La Grange is in no position to fund most of what Jack Thompson and the City Council are proposing.
If you care in the least about the future of La Grange, you will attend the upcoming council meetings. Every citizen in La Grange has a responsibility to make sure that the City Council and the City Manager are doing what is best for La Grange. At the top of the list of responsibilities of the City Manager and the City Council is the spending of taxpayer money collected in the most prudent and efficient way possible. I didn’t get the impression that responsibility was an important issue for either Mr. Thompson or the majority of City Council members.
