Offer Solutions, Not Blame
To The Editor:
First let me say that the murder of students and teachers in Uvalde is a great tragedy for the State of Texas and America.
In response to Mr. Mikus’ letter: How dare you criticize anyone for offering “thoughts and prayers” to grieving families. Raging and insulting others while not offering any viable solutions is the Democrat modus operandi.
Do you understand that Democrats are by far the biggest receivers of dark money?
Do you understand that guns on their own do not kill people – people kill people-period. Banning guns will not stop people from killing people. But owning guns will keep people safe if someone tries to kill them.
Do you understand that a background check on the murderer of those kids and teachers would not have caught the fact that he was mentally unstable?
Your statement that Republicans want to protect the violent offenders, the dishonorably discharged, the mentally ill, and persons convicted of violent crimes to purchase and possess a gun is a lie. None of the above would pass a background check to get a weapon with the possible exception of the mentally ill which is the biggest issue for both parties.
Do you understand it is not the Republicans holding legislation back. Ted Cruz introduced legislation after the Parkland HS shooting to provide billions to local school districts to secure their schools. It was filibustered by the Dems. He introduced another bill targeting felons who use guns in the commission of crimes. It was filibustered as well. On Wednesday, a bill was presented with massive bipartisan support in the senate named after two victims from Parkland and Schumer refused to bring it up for a vote; not until they vote on restricting gun ownership. One has to ask themselves, why would there not be 100% support to help make schools more secure? The reality is because they want to continue to use these horrific incidents as a club to beat supporters of the 2nd amendment.
Do you understand that the founding fathers knew that an armed citizenry was the only way to keep government under control and to keep them from becoming tyrants. It’s why the Second Amendment was created. Our right to own weapons is constitutionally guaranteed. How many weapons Americans have is no one’s business; certainly not the government’s.
Democrats for years have been moving to remove guns from citizens as it’s the only way they can become dictators and strip America of all its freedoms. I personally will stand up for this country and all of its freedoms including laying down my life to defend those freedoms. If you think those are hollow words, try me.
There are crazy and mentally ill people in this world who will do whatever it takes if they decide to destroy someone’s life. Our government should be focused on finding and caring for those people not blaming law-abiding citizens for the actions of crazy people. Removing guns from law-abiding citizens is not the answer.
Mr. Mikus’ recent letters have blamed every problem the planet has on the Republicans. My advice to him is he should look in the mirror and clean up his own house before he places blame. Democrats are the greatest threat to this country’s freedoms since its creation.
