No Respect for Rule of Law

To The Editor:

Mr. Mikus’s letter published in the FC Record Friday, May 27 is another baseless rant against Republicans.

The current law enforcement providers face repeated scenarios of existing laws, such as Red Flag laws, being broken. Violent crime such as occurred in Uvalde is not a problem stemming from the lack of government regulation. It is an individual problem of thinking—a bad choice of free will.

The Uvalde shooter was not thinking straight and neither was Mr. Mikus when he penned his letter. We are each responsible for our decisions. A gun is an inanimate object until it is in the hands of a person.

Incidents like the one in Uvalde are difficult to understand. I have compassion for those who have lost children, partners, and friends. I can ask, “Why did this happen?” I don’t expect a direct answer.

I believe Biblical law is absolute and contains wisdom we should learn and apply. The Bible tells me, “Thou shalt not murder” (Exodus 20:13). And, there is “a time to be born and a time to die” (Ecclesiastes 3:2). The parents who lost children last Tuesday will mourn and we can mourn their loss with them. The Bible also tells me in Proverbs 11:21, “Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished…” I believe God knows who the wicked are.

Creating more government control over guns will not ease the grief of gun violence or solve the problems of the confused or criminal mind. More government control only decomposes our freedoms.

Americans need to recognize if there is no respect for the rule of law there will be no order or civility in society (II Chronicles 7:14.)
