New Vehicles? New Positions? And Raises? No Thanks.

To the Editor:

I saw in The Fayette County Record of the vote to increase the Property Tax Rate. I wish the so-called county commissioners would tell property owners how to increase their property income to match the county tax increase? Do any of these commissioners own property in Fayette County?

I see where the commissioners think they need to raise salaries to match higher pay in other county’s. What counties are they comparing Fayette County to that we need to increase our level of revenue in order to keep employees. If an employee wants to move over a few bucks and put up with the hassle of moving, then let them. And what really is the need to purchase new vehicles or new equipment? Is the older equipment not maintained? A property owner would be very happy to be purchasing new vehicles, but their income has not increased to warrant a new purchase.

New staff positions? When money is tight we do not go out and think we need to hire new people for positions that never existed before. Why does the county believe that there should be a new staff position and what would they do to add value to Fayette County?

It sounds like our county commissioners never look at what they could do to save money, but only to spend the taxpayers money. I’ve not heard once where the commissioners have said they found new ways to extend the life of older equipment like many ranchers have done in the past and will into the future.

If I were a commissioner, I would be looking at future elections and wonder if I have been doing a good job for the people of this county and warrant another term in office.
