My Support for Trump
To The Editor: When Donald Trump first entered the arena of presidential candidates, my perspective of him was a spoiled, obnoxious billionaire hungry for power and prestige. I figured he had no chance of actually winning the nomination, much less the election. As time went on, he was both nominated and elected despite his personality because so many people eventually saw what I saw.
He was a man that had the right answers to the important issues like border security, international trade equality, economics, energy, and foreign policy. He not only had the right answers, but had the know-how, will, and ability to get things done. Not being a career politician, much of his politically incorrect ways and methods were attributes in enabling him to accomplish the right goals in a way I had never seen in a president in my lifetime. But as important as those things were, I personally was most swayed by the fact that he stood on the biblical truth side of the ethical issues. Issues like abortion, gay marriage, and transgender. This country was founded on Christian/biblical principles, and because of that and our support for God’s chosen people Israel, this nation rose to number one status in the world as a result of God’s blessings. Over the past half century, our biblical foundation has greatly eroded, and the past two years have been the most extreme example of this yet. Because of this we are now experiencing God’s wrath instead of his blessings. We desperately need leaders that stand on the side of biblical truth.
Is Mr.Trump a true Christian? I cannot and should not judge that. God knows. If he is not, would God still use him to accomplish his purposes?
In Matthew 7:22-23, Jesus tells us something that will happen in the end (“that day”)… “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’” These passages, and many others, show that God uses whoever he chooses to carry out his work, whether they are Christians or not. Whether or not Trump is a true Christian, it is clear to me God has used, and hopefully will continue to use him to fight for biblical solutions to our issues.
Of course, I want to see him fight for those issues using methods of Godly character, and will continuously pray for him to do so. But how he goes about the fight is not nearly as important as fighting for the right things. What good does it do for our nation if someone does everything in some politically correct way but fights for the wrong things? There is no right way to do the wrong thing. We have been seeing that ever since January 2020.
What we have seen is an Afghanistan debacle, terrible energy and economic policies resulting in high gas prices and inflation, and a border policy that has produced multiple major problems, just to name a few. The current administration is embarrassingly weak and chaotic, and its leadership is either non-existent or just very bad. This is so obvious even to other nations. Putin saw this as a prime opportunity to take advantage of the situation, which has ultimately resulted in the threat of a WWIII over Ukraine. When given the choice between a flawed personality that stands for the Christian principles this country was founded upon, and gets the right things done for our nation, or a person or party that has no knowledge and/or respect for scripture, pushes socialism, and is a root cause of so many problems, I must vote for the flawed personality. The downside of Mr. Trump’s flaws, as pronounced as they are, are still practically nothing compared to the downside of the current people in office. The basis of his ways is the Bible, which will ultimately bring God’s blessings, which are essential to get this country on the right track. God’s wrath will continue if the current party remains in office.
