My Help Ignored
To the Editor:
It was interesting to read about the meeting concerning emergency response in Fayette County. I too had wished to be a member of a Response Team (CERT) during an emergency in Fayette County, should one arise.
After reading an account of CERT volunteers in Fayette County I decided to contact the person in charge of these volunteers to find out what was needed to participate. To start with CERT, I would need to complete the FEMA Course for the Community Response Team. Armed with the proper credentials, SID Number, I quickly took the course and passed receiving a certificate of accomplishment back in May 2021.
After completion of this instruction, I contacted the Emergency Response Team coordinator in La Grange, but nothing was done. After a few months I contacted them again, but was told that the coordinator had been promoted and a new coordinator for new members was now in this old position. After communication with this new coordinator had been established I never heard back from the Emergency Response Team again.
After this poor response from the Emergency Response Team I never looked back and decided that if an emergency arose I would do what I could for myself and neighbors.
