My COVID View

To The Editor:

I am responding to Mr. Romberg’s letter in the Feb. 4 edition, in which he claimed that the COVID “facts” he presented are incontrovertible (meaning “not able to be disputed or denied.”) Really? The truth is the “facts” he lists are simply his opinions. No one has enough knowledge or accurate data to be able to provide “incontrovertible facts” about COVID. Here are my responses to his “facts.”

1. COVID vaccinations do not represent any risk whatever for the average person. There has not been enough testing or documentation to make his statement an incontrovertible FACT.

2. COVID vaccinations reduce the risk of getting ill and the severity of the illness, if contracted. I concede that this MAY be true, but we do not yet know the long term effects of the vaccine or having to take possibly endless booster shots.

3. People who have had COVID have more natural immunity than the vaccines provide and do not benefit from vaccination. True. So why does he later insist that everyone needs to be vaccinated?

4. He talks about how COVID has adversely affected our health, society, and our economy. I can’t argue with that, but would those numbers be the same if our government had not restricted the use of existing, proven-effective pharmaceuticals, censoring doctors who prescribed them and banning social media posts which discussed them?

5. New variant caused increase in cases. This is true of the Omicron variant and, unfortunately, gave the government an excuse to mandate vaccinations, ignoring constitutional rights, personal health conditions, and religious objections. Here are my responses to his

Here are my responses to his “observations that he believes to be true.” Again, his opinions.

a) People are refusing vaccination to express their objection to government control. While that is part of the issue, it’s more about the freedom to make an informed decision about our own body as well as medical privacy.

b) There are few signs we are getting this pandemic under control. His opinion. I disagree. The numbers show both cases and deaths have significantly decreased in the past few months. However, this administration wants to stoke public fear in order to perpetuate their power and control. (Not to mention continue kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies).

c) If everyone were vaccinated… Here he has lumped the entire population into a one-size-fits-all medical recommendation. This is America and we deserve to be treated as individuals who can think and make decisions for ourselves.

Here are my responses to his questions.

A. Why are those who refuse vaccination taking the risk? They value their freedom of choice and their medical privacy.

B. Does that refusal have any significant effect in maintaining our freedom from government control and mandates? Yes. We must stand up for our beliefs and fight for our freedoms. If we continue to give into the tyranny of the current administration we will lose our freedoms, our economy, and the America we love.

C. Are there better ways to express commitment to reduced government control? Yes. In addition to fighting for our freedoms, we can vote the current corrupt, incompetent politicians out of office.
