Must Be the Water They’re Drinking

To the Editor:

Let’s take a good look at the past. $25 million on a hospital in a town of 4,000 people more or less. Then they wanted the taxpayers to pay for their mistake with a hospital tax, you know the rest of the story. Must be the water they were drinking.

Then there was the new school someone wanted to build on the other side of town. More buses, another cafeteria. When the bond failed, they found a way to build something very nice by the high school. Again, must be the water they were drinking.

Someone thought the way to stop 18 Wheelers from having wrecks on the bluff was to have a $300 million dollar bypass built. New bridge across the river, divide people’s land. Then they come up with another direction through Hostyn area. Again, dividing people’s land. There is a road that can be used and is already being used by large loads and some truckers. FM 2734 through Hostyn, but the people who live on that road don’t want more traffic. That’s progress get used to it. A mandatory sign on each end of La Grange for 18 Wheelers to use 609 then through Hostyn to State Highway 77 would stop some truck traffic on the bluff but that solution is too easy, must be the water they are drinking.

Then someone wanted to beautify the square and build a huge flower bed so people would not walk through the traffic. Don’t want any one to get run over. I do not recall a person being hit by an automobile in that area since I have lived in Fayette County, then to make matters worse someone forgot to run a water line to that project. Don’t people know plants have to be watered or most of them will die? Must be the water they were drinking.

Then board members come up with an idea to build a better school. Sounds to me they want a majestic palace for school kids to learn, a very nice school was built by the high school when voters didn’t let them have their way, they found a way by the high school. Maybe they stopped drinking the water long enough to make a reasonable decision.

Then they were quick to point out 65 or older citizens probably will not see any increase in school property taxes, don’t count on that. What about people who have rental property? 1,281 dollars per year that will cause rent to go up. You are not helping inflation. Fayette County has a lot of over 65 who would like to improve their property but can’t because of taxes that you are proposing. What about those people? We don’t make $20 dollars $30 or $50 an hour, most of those folks get a 2.5% cost of living raise one time a year. Oh, you forgot about that.

When are schools going to stop this 21st century education and start teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. I learned phonics in school, and I still use it today 80 years later. Why do so many people want La Grange to be the most beautiful the best in the State, the most beautiful and expensive school? It just doesn’t make sense; glad I drink well water.

What I’ve said is true and if this makes you angry you are angry at the truth. I apologize if you are angry, I’m angry too.
