Monitoring Costs are Minimal, so Why Stop?

To The Editor:

The request by the LCRA to reduce the water runoff monitoring requirements should not be taken lightly. Monitoring cost are minimal, not even rounding error as a percentage of total operating cost. Mitigating potential runoff of pollutants into the Colorado River can be expensive. Make no mistake, the proposed change would allow more contaminated runoff water to enter the Colorado River without it being treated, as this is the cheapest option.

Monitoring of runoff rules are in place to protect the public interest. Relaxing them increases the risk to the environment, our land, water, health and recreation.

Read the proposed rule change and either accept the increased risk or take action to prevent it.
