Money Isn’t Everything
To the Editor:
Lately there has been a lot of discussion concerning pay raises for two of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies. I’m concerned that the two deputies in question might get the raise while leaving the remaining deputies to wonder why they are left out of the discussion. We see the results of other deputies actions every week in the Fayette County Record and are they not as important in maintaining a safe environment. Maybe as a result of increasing the pay of the two deputies in question you end up alienating the remaining deputies and possibly loosing them.
Sometimes the amount of money we make in salaries is not the whole reason one chooses to stay on a job. I certainly made way more money in the oil industry, but my quality of life now far exceeds the benefits of that salary.
If someone wishes to move on in their career it can be based on many factors not just money. Getting a pay raise is great, but that raise does not necessarily garner satisfaction in the job.
