Love for Lukas Bakery

To the Editor:

The article about Lukas Bakery in Eat. Shop. Play. was superb. Lukas Bakery is almost as old as I am. We lived on the corner of Crockett and Washington Streets. My mother baked bread every other day. She sent us to the bakery to get a pound of wet or cake yeast. Mr. Lukas sold it for a quarter.

We still get kolaches, pigs, and cookies from the bakery. Our favorite is the poppy seed kolaches and the pigs are wonderful. The poppy seed strudel is another favorite.

I do hope someone buys the bakery. La Grange is losing too many of the businesses that make it a unique place in Texas.
