Living with Politics Until November

To the Editor:

We may be tempted to ignore the candidates and their rhetoric.

Over the next 17 months, let’s not miss our opportunity to vet the next leaders. It’s our time to choose the character of leadership that we want in the highest places.

Our democracy needs someone with leadership skills. Among the many skills is the ability to understand intelligence reports (economic, scientific, medical, military). A leader needs to appreciate the reports’ strengths and weaknesses, content and contexts, overt meanings and possible implications. This is important in today’s world of conflict.

The recent bravado politics of hunch and intuition will not work.

We need leaders with the ability to think things through and plan forward for what’s best for the future of America and its challenges.

We Americans have an obligation to tune in to politics.
