That Little Voice

    That Little Voice

I’ve said often there should be a law that forbids folks like me to ever possess a computer.

I can’t decide if I’m just techie stupid, too lazy to learn, or want to keep computer specialists in business with my ignorance.

Whatever the reason, I do know I’m supporting at least one family with the income I provide for his computer expertise.

In Mexico, the challenges are even greater than in the states, or they seem greater since Spanish is not part of my vocabulary. Most of the time hand gestures get me answers I can understand, especially if they are in English. But when it comes to ‘computerize’, not so much. In fact, not at all.

So, I’ve been having issues between my Apple laptop and my Microsoft email, and they don’t like talking with one another, or that’s the best I have gleaned from their lack of communication.

Okay, I’m hearing your voices saying something like, “Margo, that is not a problem, you obviously don’t know what you are talking about.”

That certainly could be true, but whatever the problem(s) is, I’ve been unsuccessful in sending out emails or receiving them. Add to that the Mexico internet and Wi-Fi services are a bit ‘iffy’ at any given hour on any given day. Mexico has lots of benefits, but outside of Mexico City, those benefits do not include reliable working towers and fiber optics.

A friend has an emotional breakdown several times a week when she is attempting to participate in a Zoom meeting or watch a movie on Netflix.

Her level of speech intensifies in vulgarity and volume, and she swears (pun intended) she is going to do bodily harm to the non-working wires coming into her house. To date, her walls are intact and she still has a computer that isn’t usable all the time.

One thing I have learned, ‘manana’ in Spanish doesn’t necessarily mean tomorrow, but can be expanded to mean ‘not today,’ which translates to ‘sometime.’

One must learn patience and how to breathe through fits of frustration. Some people learn to slow down, others have heart attacks.
