That Little Voice
That Little Voice
It’s been a week of celebrations in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
And in San Miguel, a celebration always includes parades, fireworks, crowds, color, and family gatherings.
This year was no exception after two years of skipping all the festivities except firecrackers. Mexicans have a ‘thing’about loud bangers set off in the middle of the night. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be for an official observance. Maybe it’s a birthday that brings out the noise makers, or perhaps a wedding, anniversary, engagement, or a sport’s team victory.
The reasons are usually unknown, and the howling dogs don’t care. They just want it to be quiet again.
This year, there was a fabulous (or so I heard) horse parade at 3 a.m. followed by a light show at the Parroquia, and then Sunday morning Indians from various colonias and tribes danced and paraded from one end of town to the Jardin in the center of town.
I’m attaching several pictures of the marchers, mainly the little ones who were decked out in fabulous Indian costumes and head dresses, and marching with parents and family members.
Hope you enjoy the glimpse into the fun and traditions of San Miguel.
