Listen to Ben Franklin
To the Editor:
To the Democratic Party of Fayette County – Saw your ad in the Record last week thanking Democrats for protecting our freedom to vote. I’m guessing you’re referring to the Democrats who ignored their duty to their constituents for a boondoggle to Washington, taking a charter jet, earning a pretty penny per diem, and then having the nerve to say they were “suffering” and “so brave.” Please. They are acting like spoiled, petulant children, who when they don’t get their way, they run and hide. In this case, on the taxpayer dime. And before you mention Republicans doing the same thing, I would say the same about them. These are elected officials who are supposed to be adults and who were elected by the people of their districts to work for them. Running away and pouting is not working for the people.
I’ve heard many Democrats complain, not only about the language in the Georgia voting bill, but the Texas one as well. What none of them have ever said is what exact language in these bills they are objecting to; what language deprives or keeps people from exercising their right to vote? So, since you’ve brought this situation to light with your ad, please share with the rest of us what language in the Texas bill deprives people of their ability and right to vote. Not what you perceive the language to mean; what the bill actually says. We’ll wait.
To Mr. Mikus’s recent letter “Vaccines No Longer Carry Political Risk.” Mr. Mikus Give. It. A. Rest. You have repeatedly harassed, bullied, tried to shame, and insulted people; you’ve called people selfish, accused them of being non-patriotic and demeaned their choice to be a Republican and a Christian as if their choices make them bad people; all because they dared to have a different opinion than yours. You have used tired commentary based on emotion, which is a Democrat staple when dealing with things they disagree with.
It may interest you to know that I do not take my medical advice from the news media or any elected official. I am allergic to fear mongering used by people in place of fact, however. I will reiterate again in response to your hysteria about COVID and the vaccine; it’s a personal choice. It’s not the government or anyone else’s business whether someone chooses or not to take the vaccine.
And lastly, to your comment about “proactive and repeated public action to get at least 75% of the people in Fayette County to take those two doses?” None would be my answer. I choose, as is my right and every other American’s right, what I put in my body. Period.
Mr. Mikus, it’s amazing how easily you appear to willingly give up your freedom and demand that others do so as well; and how you disparage anyone who chooses not to. That is a very slippery slope indeed.
I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes by Benjamin Franklin. “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
