To the editor:

I am responding to the three letters to the editor in last Friday’s March 3 edition.

First, Mr. Carpenter’s letter. I totally agree with him, especially his statement regarding the federal government’s waste and corruption associated with “FREE” government handouts and benefits. Additionally, the same may be true of local management of an entity or person on the receiving end of those benefits. Nothing is FREE. We taxpayers are covering the costs.

Second: Mr. DeLuca’s letter bashing Senator Kolkhorst’s bill to prevent government overreach, restrictions, and mandates involving our personal healthcare and activities during a pandemic. He completely ignores the facts that most in the medical community have now admitted: 1. The typical masks distributed to and worn by the general public are ineffective in stopping the spread of the COVID 19 virus. For the most part, they are nothing more than liberal “virtue signaling.” 2. The COVID vaccines and booster shots are not nearly as effective as the CDC claimed throughout the past two years. (There has also been an alarming number of cardiac deaths of young athletes and others with no prior cardiac health issues. Is this a coincidence? I think not.) 3. Yes, there IS natural immunity from having had COVID. Additionally, the closing of schools and select businesses was far more detrimental to small businesses and families than any assumed benefit to the public as a whole.

Third: Mr. Pate’s letter vilifying school choice. This is another example of reality denial. In stating that School choice is robbing public resources, he ignores the fact that MANY parents, while paying exorbitant school district taxes with their property tax bills, are also paying full price for private schools due to the poor quality of education in public schools. He refers to “the dissolution of public education and the demise of critical thinking, and unfettered learning.” WOW. If there was one benefit from the COVID pandemic, it was that parents became aware that these very things have been happening for quite a while. For the most part, children in public schools are not graduating with a proficiency in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Many can barely read. They are not being taught the basics of government. They can no longer add, subtract, multiply, or divide without a calculator. They can’t read or write cursive writing. History is being rewritten so that the next generation cannot celebrate the achievements or learn from the mistakes of the past. Young students are being brainwashed with Critical Race Theory, personally confused with forced “politically correct” gender identity language, or even encouraged to believe they are “gender fluid.” They are subjected to perverted sexual activities both in print and at live events. No wonder parents are fighting back and removing their children from these toxic environments.

Thankfully, many of us in Fayette County can still think and act for ourselves.
