Letters to the Editor Why I Wear The Green Ribbon

To the Editor:

My name is Peyton Drozd and I wear the green ribbon in honor of my sister, Kyla. Kyla suffered from depression and last year, at the age of 16, she took her own life.

I’m choosing to pass out the green ribbons at school to promote Mental Health Awareness Month. When I first started passing them out and explaining why I was doing it, it felt weird. It was hard to talk about it, especially to people who don’t understand it, but the more I talked about it the easier it got. That is my goal for passing them out, to let people know that it gets easier the more they talk about it.

Maybe if Kyla was more comfortable talking about it, things would have turned out differently.
