Flawed Faith Argument

To The Editor: Contrary to the false premise upon which David McCall based his letter “You Reap What You Sow” in last Friday’s Record, the Christian faith is NOT “constantly evolving as the Bible’s message undergoes different interpretations.” The author of the Book of Hebrews wrote that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever,” and all of Scripture from Genesis to The Revelation emphasizes this sacred truth. Jesus, when He “became flesh and dwelt among men” met (and still meets!) all kinds of sinners right where they (we) live, with His love, His mercy, and His empathy – but Jesus never changes Himself to accommodate their (our) sin. Instead, Jesus changed THEM (and us). When Christ followers use the Word of God as the standard by which to evaluate the world, their Christian faith has no need to “evolve.” Conversely, when one uses the standards of the world to evaluate (“interpret”) God’s Word, then one may be practicing some sort of “religion” – but one is not engaged in Christianity, i.e. being a follower, a disciple, of Christ. This applies across all tribes and nations and peoples and languages (or, if you prefer, denominations.) Jesus Christ is not of any political party. However, the Word – both the Bible and Jesus himself – ought to be used by Christians as the “lens” through which we view the world, and the standard by which we discern within it, in ALL our endeavors – including politics. While I disagree with Mr. McCall’s flawed “evolving Christianity” premise, I very much agree with his conclusion that “we reap what we sow.” Or as Paul wrote to the Galatians, “Be not deceived. God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

The Republican and Democratic platforms are quite different. The Democrat platform and candidates embrace, among other things, the taking of innocent unborn lives at any time prior to and even past birth; the mutilation of boys and girls in a misguided attempt to change their gender from what the Creator ordained it to be; practicing corruption and lawlessness to erase our national sovereignty by destroying our borders, bringing with it the evils of deadly drugs and human trafficking; teaching our children, through Critical RaceTheory, that they are either racist or a helpless victim based only upon the color of skin they were born with; robbing families of their means of providence by feeding inflation with their profligate spending; and I could go on. Jesus said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly”. As a follower of Jesus I plan not to sow into the harvest of the thief.
