Let Us Improve How We Treat Our Neighbors

“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Galatians 5:14)

We live in a divided nation, and that division continues to grow as we draw closer to the election. No matter what happens in November, your neighbor will continue to be your neighbor. The political signs will all come down, and we will get back to living life in our beautiful small town. What is of first importance over the coming weeks is how we treat one another.

We may not be able to do much about the polarization in our country, but we can do something about how we behave within our community. We can be an example to our nation and other communities. We can live out our faith by prioritizing how we treat one another over how we vote.

We will disagree about issues and policies, but this shouldn’t cause us to hate one another. We must see our neighbors as people created in the image of God. God loves us all, and he has called us to love the people we see every day. We must love in word and deed. We must speak kindly of others and treat them the way we would like to be treated.

Pray for our country. Pray for our community. Let’s show the people around us there is a better way to live. Let’s love our neighbors regardless of how they may vote. Let’s love our neighbors because they are our neighbors.
