Lack of Accountability Emboldened Behavior

He did it again. The President actually did it again.

Most people with a basic level of common sense would have learned from the first call that led to his impeachment, but this president, emboldened by the lack of GOP/Congressional accountability, has again gotten caught perpetrating criminal behavior on the phone.

Election fraud this time and there’s verified audio of the attempted crime. Now, let’s understand: a person doesn’t need to be successful at the crime to be guilty... just attempt to commit the transgression is all that’s required. In the call released Sunday, there is very clearly an attempt by Trump to subvert the lawful, legal, legitimate results of an election in the state of Georgia: an explicit request of Georgia’s Republican SoS to “find 11,780 votes”. Not only does this run afoul of Federal statutes, but also of GA’s state statutes. Calls have already been made to the FBI director to begin a federal investigation into these crimes. Calls are also being made within GA to open a state investigation into the crimes committed under GA statutes. Let’s just say that Trump is in very, very deep trouble on this one especially with his presidential term ending in just over 2 weeks.

Undoubtedly, he will try to pardon himself in the coming weeks which will take years to play out through the federal court system, but he cannot pardon himself for the crimes committed under GA statutes. And, after the treatment he’s levied on GA officials, there’s no way he’s going to see clemency for these crimes.

He’s in very, very deep and very serious trouble despite prior complicity from Congressional Republicans.
