Kudos to Councilperson Gonzalez
To the Editor:
Thank you Councilperson Gonzalez for asking questions related to Schmeckenfest, or anything for that matter. For the past few years, few Councilpersons have asked the City Manager or Mayor any questions related to anything. However, when a question is asked, it seems to be ignored by the Mayor and City Manager and never discussed again I.e. budget questions from Councilperson Taylor.
As a local property and business owner, I too, have the same questions as it relates to COVID. Why are we allowing Shots on the Square, aka Schmeckenfest, but saying no to youth activities like the Fair parade and Halloween on the Square? Further, why are we creating ordinances for masks, yet the City Manager and Mayor sit next to each other maskless during council meetings and pose shoulder to shoulder for pictures in this paper? This begs the question, should the government even be involved in any of this?
Having a Councilperson who is requiring answers and transparency before voting “Yay or Nay” is what this community desires and deserves. It makes me hopeful for our future here. I hope more local people, who are willing to care enough to ask some simple questions, run for council. You would have our support, and the support of many others.
To Councilperson Gonzalez, my family thanks you for your leadership and service to this community.
