Investing in our School
To the Editor:
At the recent school bond meeting, I spoke not only as a parent, but as someone who grew up in this community and believes deeply in the future of La Grange.
Our schools are more than buildings. They are the heart of this town. They are where our children learn their first lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and responsibility. They are where teachers inspire futures and where young people begin to discover who they will become.
Years ago, I sat in those same classrooms as a La Grange student. I graduated from La Grange High School, and like so many others, I benefited from the investment this community made in its schools. The support of this town helped shape my path, just as it has for generations before me.
Today, we are proud to be raising our own child here.
I also have the privilege of serving as President of the La Grange Elementary PTO. In that role, I see firsthand the dedication of our teachers and staff and the incredible potential in our students. Every day I see the care, effort, and commitment that go into making our schools a place where children can learn and grow. I see teachers who truly love our kids like their very own, and administrators who dedicate their lives to ensuring every child has the opportunity to receive the education they deserve.
Some have pointed to our school’s state rating as a reflection of our schools. The ratings are based on a snapshot of student performance on state mandated tests and do not begin to tell the full story about our students, staff, or schools. As someone who actually spends time inside our school through the PTO, I believe what I actually see. What I see are teachers and staff who care deeply about our children and students who are supported, challenged, and encouraged to succeed. That is exactly why continuing to invest in our schools and our students matters.
For decades, the people of this community have stepped up to support the students walking those halls. That investment helped build the strong, close-knit town we are fortunate to call home today.
Now it’s our turn. Supporting this bond is about more than buildings. It’s about providing safe, functional spaces where teachers can teach and students can learn. It’s about continuing the tradition of investing in the next generation.
Strong schools are also essential to a thriving community. If we want to attract families, grow businesses, and keep our local economy strong, we must be willing to invest in the facilities and infrastructure that support our schools. These are long-term investments that strengthen not only our classrooms, but the future of our entire community.
Because the students walking the halls of our schools today will one day become the teachers, business owners, volunteers, and leaders who shape the future of this community.
A strong community begins with strong schools.
La Grange has a proud past. By investing in our schools today, we can help ensure a bright future for the generations that will follow.
Our community has always believed in supporting its schools, and I hope we will continue that tradition for the generations who will follow.
