Insulting to Republicans

To The Editor:

John W. Mikus insults 80% of Fayette County, every time he submits a letter to the Fayette County Record, in my opinion. Why do I say 80% of the county? Well, in the recent county wide primary run-off election, 5,249 votes were cast, representing 30% of total registered voters. Of those, 4,929 were Republican voters, and 320 were Democrat voters. Roughly 93% of votes cast in the county were Republican. The average runs closer to 80% in overall elections.

In his recent letter, Mikus describes the 80% of voters in this county that support constitutional conservative values as “…Republican right wing gun nuts, and right wing extremists.” Mikus states that Republicans want to provide firearms to “…domestic violence offenders, dishonorably discharged soldiers, the mentally ill, and those convicted of violent crimes.”

While I identify as a constitutional conservative, and not strictly a Republican, I do not want any of those things that Mikus states.

After serving 30 years in law enforcement, I am appalled, saddened and angered by what happened in Uvalde. Whether the atrocity was carried out by firearm, knife, motor vehicle or bomb, is it really an issue of instrumentality? I believe it is more an issue of mental health, or more likely, pure evil.

A meaningful dialogue cannot begin when we have disingenuous self-promoters. Their actions are counterproductive to pursuing actual changes that will protect children in schools. Did you see Robert Frances O’Rourke disrupt a conference meant to provide assistance and information to those grieving families in Uvalde? O’Rourke’s motive appeared to be political grandstanding. Did you read John Mikus’ letter to the Fayette County Record May 27? (I was glad to see that he is listing his residence as Houston, and not Fayetteville anymore.) It is grotesque, if not immoral, for any dilettante to exploit such a horrible event, and use it as a personal platform for propaganda.

Gun registration, background checks, and waiting periods would have done nothing to prevent recent school shootings. The firearms used in the evil acts were legally purchased, or the firearms were stolen. We need to have an honest conversation about school safety.

The second amendment guarantees that my inalienable right to defend myself and my family shall not be infringed. The second amendment is under attack by Democrats, RINOs, Socialists and Communists. The Marxist’s credo is to divide the people, disarm portions of the populace, and confiscate private property. I will stand up and resist with my words and my votes. It is time for conservatives to stop being so damn polite! You will not take my firearms. If anyone needs more information on the right to defend yourself from all threats, foreign or domestic, or information about the types of firearms with to defend yourself, please educate yourself with facts, not Marxist talking points.
