If You Can’t Say Anything Nice...

To the Editor:

I’m aggravated, frustrated and irritated about what is going on in our country and with our citizens. There is such lack of respect for our President of the United States.

President Trump was the first sitting president to step across the border into North Korea on June 30, 2019. The meeting was highly symbolic due to Trump shaking hands across the military demarcation line with Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of North Korea. The meeting was in the Panmujom truce village in the DMZ that separates North and South Korea. Was there a ticker tape parade because of this historical meeting – the first sitting president to step across the border into North Korea? No – nothing.

With Trump’s strong leadership, he has destroyed the nuclear program in Iran. Was there a celebration over this major win, not only for Trump but the military that carried out orders to destroy the nuclear sites? Once again, no major celebration was held for our military and our president.

President Trump signed landmark legislation, The Fentanyl Act. I finally took the time to look up what Fentanyl is. It is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. It is mainly used for advanced cancer patients. The use of Fentanyl is sometimes mixed with other drugs without the user knowing it. The legislation classifies Fentanyl-related substances as a Controlled Substance. Law enforcement now has the tools they need to keep this dangerous drug off the streets.

Lastly, the Israel and Hamas peace deal. Trump has had a hand in getting the hostages and prisoners released. Peace may finally happen in the Middle East if both countries abide by the Gaza peace deal. Was there a ticker tape parade for this feat by our President? No. Trump was denied the Nobel Peace Prize.

Whatever happened to respect for the leader of our country? Instead, a “No Kings” protests was held all over the country. The protest was about people being against the authoritarian leadership and corruption within our government. Give me a break. Are people so full of hate that they can’t see the good that our president or our legislators are doing? What got to me was there was a sign disrespecting Charlie Kirk. Please let the man rest in peace and have some respect for his family.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of hearing about how people hate this person or hate that person. Yes, I believe in free speech, but whatever happened to “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all?”
