I Didn’t Like Recent Column

To the Editor:

A thirteen-column-inch pile of steaming bullfertilizer – that’s Annette Citzler’s “ICE and Memories From Liberia” in the 1/30 Record. This is what passes for editorial excellence at the FCR? Y’all should be ashamed of yourselves. Let’s hold our noses and unpack this steaming mess.

The okay-smelling top half of the pile is an account of Ms. Citzler’s time in Liberia, a former democracy, but as of 1985 an autocracy complete with a totalitarian dictator and troops on the streets armed with (gasp) machine guns like troops usually are. (I have seen the exact same in Mexico, Greece, and Israel – and many of the “troops” in Israel are young women with Tavor machine guns slung on their backs. How did that make me feel? In a word, safe, because I intended to obey the law.)

But halfway down, Citzler steers her stinky-ink filled magic pen in a different direction. Suddenly dictator Samuel Doe is replaced (in Citzler’s mind and, she hopes, in yours) by the evil Generalissimo Donald Trump. (Forget that President Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the voters in the STILL-democratic USA.) Citzler transforms brave US border patrol and ICE agents into Doe’s corrupt military, of course without context or evidence. “In balaclavas”, she says, they “perform their work with such banana-republic, dictatorially thuggish practices”. “Breaking down doors and going into people’s homes with no judicial warrants” (as the law allows them to do – look it up.but she doesn’t mention that). And, yes, they wear something on their face. It’s -10 degrees in Minneapolistan, and besides, Citzler’s progressive left has threatened not only them, but their families, with illegal doxxing followed by physical harm. I’d mask up too. Like the majority of the insurgents opposing them do as well.

Speaking of insurgents, Citzler casts the insurgents in opposition to ICE not as what they are, but as what she wants you to believe them to be. For example an insurgent “mommy” behind the wheel of a two ton vehicle aimed at and accelerating into an ICE agent doing his job, who is forced to shoot her in self defense. Afterwards he spends time in the hospital for internal injuries received when Mommy’s weaponized car struck him. Incidentally Mommy was urged into acceleration by Mommy’s partner in crime, Mommy 2 – because of course they’re lesbians, sexual deviance being a badge of honor among the progressive insurgents rioting against legal enforcement of America’s immigration laws.

Ms. Citzler, I want you to know that I am one of “those of us” you think you speak for who enthusiastically voted for President Trump. He ran on a platform of enforcing the immigration laws that Biden flaunted in hopes of padding the progressive left’s voter rolls. My President appointed an excellent team who are doing their level best to uphold the campaign promise he made to “those of us” who voted for him. So, you better believe it, I surely did vote for this. All of it. Including the lawbreaking insurgents in combat with ICE that are getting their just desserts – good and hard.
