Hospital Mess
To the editor:
Most of the large hospitals in the major cities of Austin and Houston are classified as nonprofits. Thus, they pay no taxes; income, property or sales taxes and they must “spend” most of their revenue each year. So it is very discouraging to see these nonprofits seeming to be in competition with the lawyers to see who can buy the most TV time on the local networks. And here we sit 90 miles away with a hospital which can not generate sufficient revenue to remain in business. What a state of affairs.
