Flying the Flag

To the Editor:

I appreciated the comments concerning flying the flag at half staff in last week’s letter, but was surprised by the comments concerning flying the flag at full staff. To remember the soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan by not lowering the flag to half staff indicates one would do nothing to signify their honor.

If it was honorable to leave the flag at full staff would be equivalent of doing nothing since the flag is flown at full staff the majority of the time. If a loved politician dies are we to signify their passing by leaving the flag at full or half staff? Based on the logic of not lowering the flag to half staff for soldiers killed in the line of duty, why would one lower the flag for a civilian politician?
