Fix Our City Utilities

To the Editor:

I have not heard what was going on with the La Grange Utilities Sunday, Oct. 10-11. We live in town off Hwy. 159 and our utility service went on and off about 8-10 times all day. I finally got in touch with the utilities dept. and was told they were down all the way to Rutersville and they were working to fix the problem - I finally gave up trying to reset my appliances and clocks.

Well, things went well for a little while so I got through watching TV in the living room and went to bed only to be awakened at 1 a.m. as our fan was no longer working. I went back to sleep only to be awakened at 3:30 a.m. because my husband had gotten up and was in the living room. He wears a CPAP machine to help his breathing ever since he had a stroke and was tested to find he quit breathing 80 times an hour (being in part causing his stroke.) I called the city again and the operator was very polite and sympathetic. She said she had just spoken to the repairman and they corrected two phases of the problem and to give him until 5:45 a.m. to repair phase three.

Well, we went back to bed again only to have my husband breathing erratically and snoring all night.

Well, guess what - our utilities did not come on until 7 a.m.

This is a long time without utilities; especially when medically needed.

Some were lucky this was Columbus Day holiday and didn’t have school or work.

We sometimes take our utilities for granted as the employees work hard to keep us going; but when it is medically needed it can become very essential.

Glad to have it back on - excuse me, have to go reset my clocks.
