Fix the Drains in La Grange
To The Editor:
My house was flooded on May 18, 2021 with nine inches of water then on Oct. 14, 2021 with seven inches of water throughout my home.
I believe this was caused from the drains located in front of my house. The water starts rising in the front and also from the back in the empty lot behind my house. The water then flows from under my back fence and meets the water from the front. It has nowhere to go but up when it meets, then it begins rising into my house.
I know no one can control the weather, but maybe if the drains were maintained and cleaned every now and then this would not be happening. I am really tired of hearing about the “100 year flood.” On Oct. 14 I sat in my house for over two hours before the water started to recede. It took longer to go down this time than it did on May 18. My neighbors were in the street, trying unclog the drains when city officials drove past. They did not offer to stop and assist. At the very least they could have blocked the roads and prevented traffic from creating waves that forced more water into my house.
Every time it rains, I panic, not knowing how many more times myself, my pets, and my house can go through this. If the fault lies with the drainage system, then this is an issue that must be addressed immediately. There is no excuse for this to be happening when we pay taxes to maintain our city.
