Fayetteville Trucks

To the Editor:

Regarding the article “Fayetteville Residents Fed Up With 18-Wheeler Traffic” that quotes Roger Parker... the article misses the mark. Having not spoken to me even once, my name was used - so I’ll clarify-safety is the number one concern. Are the trucks a nuisance? Yes, for sure.Do they drive through in abundance and tear up this town? Yes, they do. Have they blocked Emergency Responders in route to a medical emergency? Yes, they have on many occasions (notably Sept. 21 at approximately 10 a.m.) Do they break traffic laws and endanger this community every single day? Yes, absolutely.

I am disgusted that the article reduced my husband’s concerns only to nuisances, with Besides having to deal with the lights and noise at night, Parker said the trucks have driven in yards, breaking underground pipes and running over flower beds. Was the article written only to make us to seem shallow or to minimize the actual, genuine concern discussed? - Safety.

What happens when it’s you or one of your family members that the ambulance can’t get to or can’t transport? Or when you are run off the road? Or someone you love is hit head-on by one of these trucks that disregards the stop sign and fails to yield to the right of way? Or when your house is driven through? When your child is run over? What then? Will it matter then? Who is “You”? It’s always someone; don’t count on it being someone else.

More than 1,000 trucks a week drive through this townthat is an enormous amount.

In regards to the letter to the editor Not all Fayetteville Residents Hate Trucks from “Gilda and Roman”- I assure you, we do not have buyer’s remorse. I love my home and I love our town. I do not have enough fingers or toes to count the people in Fayetteville who care a great deal about this issue. Please pull your head out of the clouds. It baffles me that someone would put their name to such a statement of greed and total disregard for the welfare of the community. Who thinks “progress” should endanger a community? “Progress” at the expense of citizen’s and business owner’s welfare? Is that progress? Progress for who?
