Fair Representation
To the Editor:
Hans von Spakovsky, the manager of the Election Law reform Initiative and Senior legal fellow in the Ewin Meese III Center, writes in the Daily Signal, “Contrary to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ nutty claim that Republicans are trying to “steal the midterm elections” by redistricting in Texas, state legislators there are trying to correct what the Justice Department correctly calls “unconstitutional racially based” gerrymanders. Their fix will ensure that the over 2 million new residents of Texas get what they are entitled to in Congress: fair representation.”
We are told by the New York Gov. “Democrats always abide by the rules.” A visit to the latest updates on New York’s redistricting website https://redistricting.lls. edu/state/new-york/?cycle=2 020&level=Congress&startd ate=2024-02-28, shows that NY has been dealing with redistricting issues since 2020. “On Feb. 28, 2024, Gov. Hochul signed new congressional districts into law hours after the state legislature rejected lines drawn by the state’s independent commission and drew new lines itself.”
The Heritage Agenda states, “The proposed (redistricting) map would fix inaccurately apportioned and unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts to ensure fair representation for millions of Texans.
The Democrats are victims of their own policies. Don’t be duped by their narrative. I am reminded of the warning against false messaging in the Bible in Exodus 23 and the Apostle Paul’s instructions to Timothy in Timothy 2:4.
It will take time, money and objectivity to correct the various distorted messages that have sabotaged the course of American freedom.
Democrats who have abandoned their legislative posts in Texas and elsewhere are not part of a solution to ensuring fair representation to new residents or even their own constituents. Their messaging is faulty.
