Down the Rabbit Hole

To the Editor:

Published in 1865, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland “is a satirical commentary on Victorian life. Alice follows a white rabbit down a rabbit hole and enters a dreamlike world encountering bizarre characters and events. As I see our administration led by the President, I feel like Alice “down the rabbit hole.”

I am shocked and saddened that our Democracy and free speech are threatened.

The anthropomorphic (ascribing human form to a non human) creatures resemble Trump’s minions.

The White Rabbit-Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War. Quote from The White Rabbit- “I’m late, I’m late for a very important date!”

The Mad Hatter - Stephen Miller, White House Chief of Staff. Quote-“Twinkle, twinkle little bat. What a small world this is!”

Cheshire Cat - always smiling- Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Quote. “Most everyone is mad here. I’m not all there myself.”

The Duchess - Kristin Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security.

Quote. “Speak roughly to your little boy and beat him when he sneezes.”

March Hare - Karoline Leavitt, White House Secretary. Quote- “I have an excellent idea! Let’s change the subject!”

Mock Turtle - Pam Bondi, Attorney General. Quote. “We called him Tortoise because he taught us.”

Hookah Smoking Caterpillar - Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health & Human Services. Quote. “One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.”

King of Hearts, a weak, pathetic figure. - J. D. Vance, the Vice President and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State. Quote. “Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end. Then stop.”

Queen of Hearts - Trump. Quote. “Off with their heads. Enough said.”

Like Alice, “It would be nice if something made sense for a change.”
