Different Perspective
To the Editor:
See, this is what is fascinating (and disappointing) about the frequent Mikus letters… he really does loath half of Americans who are Conservative in their views and reject Socialism (the New Democrats). In his latest, he bloviates on the horrible invasion befalling the Ukrainian people. Even though Democrats have the President and control both houses he once again blames Republicans ten times. Toss in two direct references to Trump and he projects a dozen arrows of blame in the opposite direction of their actual target.
It would have been more enlightening to compare the Reagan - Gorbachev efforts at glasnost and perestroika (https://www.britannica.com/ biography/Ronald-Reagan/ Relations-with-the-Soviet-Union) coupled with Peace thru Strength initiatives like SDI that led to the ultimate dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Cold War in 1991. Ukraine was one of the first three to spilt off as a result. Sadly, this led to Gorbys resignation and US administrations since then have largely failed, during Yeltsins reign thru 1999 and then Putin’s efforts to rebuild his empire.
I’d love your perspective John on the Crimea capitulation by Obama/Biden in 2014. (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ news/fb-10285787/The-action-Obama-took-deter-Putininvading-Crimea-2014.html). As Biden/Harris hide behind the same sanctions to “scare“ Putin out of annexing Lugansk & Donetsk meanwhile he’s bombing civilians across the whole country you STILL want to blame Trump? That’s wild man, really wild.
Wondering if there is a correlation or conflict of interest. I agree 100 percent, we should be independent of any and all foreign oil. How fondly I remember paying $1.65 for diesel in October 2020 when I bought my new truck. It had doubled to $3.25 last month before the invasion, but now YIKES it’s $4.75 this morning. Worse than anything though is the reality that when the US and Europe buy Russian oil and gas they are blatantly funding the Russian war machine. This might become the first truly bipartisan effort to get Biden to surrender his war on fossil fuels. (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/russia-oil-cutoff-gathers-steam-185749207. html). Sadly he won’t move fast enough for the people suffering and dying in Ukraine.
Love that he still holds on to blaming Republican dark money, even though Democrats led the dark money race in 2020 instead of chastising ALL use of these nefarious politicians chasing this money. What a shame the Dem voters aren’t allowed to vote for leaders like Tulsi Gabbard, but only a parade of Cronies or crazy Squad members. Elections do indeed have consequences… immigration invasion, crippling inflation crisis, fentanyl OD crisis, crime and murder rates soaring, gasoline price doubles, Afghan debacle and death toll, and one of my favorites, the Huawei automobile chip sale last summer. That’s only the first year my friends. Stay tuned for China finally making their move on Taiwan and a resurgence of ISIS. Did I leave anything out?
