Dick Peck’s Amazing Legacy

To The Editor:

I thoroughly enjoyed Elaine Thomas’ story on Dick Peck in the FCR. It told of his early years, his service in Vietnam, and his career with the airlines.

What it didn’t tell you was that after Dick’s retirement from the airlines, he continued his service to the aviation community by starting a flying club here in La Grange.

This flying club now has three airplanes and close to 30 members. Dick gave his time freely to provide check rides and flight reviews to club members. More importantly, Dick gave flying lessons to young people free of charge, some of whom now have pilot jobs with the airlines because of him.

During my time as an engineer in the space shuttle program, I had the opportunity to work with several pilots and a few astronauts, and Dick Peck is one of the most talented, dedicated, and modest aviators I have known.

So to Dick Peck: blue skies and tailwinds.
