Democracy vs. Constitutional Republic

To the Editor:

There is a billboard along Hwy. 71 Bypass which reads: “This is what Democracy looks like: Biden/Harris.” I would like to remind everyone that America is a constitutional republic. In a Democracy, the majority rules. This means, for example, that states with very dense populations, such as California and New York, could win every presidential election, control congress and every aspect of our lives. Thankfully, we currently live in a constitutional republic. We have an electoral college and a political process which allows each state fair representation and an equal voice in the laws which govern us.

If America was not a constitutional republic, rural counties such as ours would have no impact on or control of those who represent us in congress or the laws that they pass.

Don’t be confused by signs such as this. Keep America a constitutional republic and help make it great again.
