Curiouser and Curiouser

To the Editor:

The quote “Curiouser and Curiouser” comes from “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.

This is an expression we use to mean that something is increasingly confounding. This is how I’m feeling about those who still support Trump. Trump’s party of “law and order” is an obvious sham. The unrest in our country is stoked by Trump’s rhetoric and fear-mongering. The blatant exploitation of the White House for political reasons is shocking. It violates the Hatch Act and if not illegal, it is unethical.

The number of lies and misinformation from the speakers at the Republican National Convention is appalling. There were over two dozen from the President. Here are just a few that Trump tries passing off as truth: 1. He bragged that he has done more for African Americans than any other President forgetting about LBJ and Carter. Trump won’t even condemn the recent horrific killings of black Americans and encourages white supremacist rhetoric. He will not address systemic racism in our country.

2. For three and a half years he has been saying his party will protect Americans with pre-existing health conditions and make health care more affordable while continuing to trying to do away with the Affordable Care Act or weakening it by not supporting insurance for pre-existing conditions.

3. The most disturbing of all is that he reported that the nation has the lowest fatalities from COVID 19 of all the countries. The truth is that the U.S. has the highest death rates. Trump’s failure to recognize the seriousness of this virus has contributed to over 180,000 deaths of Americans and that is rising. He called it a hoax, made fun of people wearing masks, did not follow the advice of Scientists, and made it harder for states and hospitals to get the equipment needed to fight the virus.

How far down the “rabbit hole” are folks willing to go?
