Is The County Getting Worse?

To the Editor:

This Friday I was notified that Air Evac was no longer going to be stationed in Fayette County. If we look at that as an indicator of what life might look like for the people of Fayette County one would be looking for another place to live.

First the hospital shuts down the birthing center. Then the hospital is no longer able to have any type of extended hospitalization, which starts with any overnight stays. And now we learn that there will no longer be Air Evac. None of these would make anyone think about moving to Fayette County. In fact it might actually drive those living in Fayette County to consider moving.

But, just this last week the owners of property in Fayette County found out how much our property is now worth and it has taken a mighty jump in value. This will equate to higher tax bills. If people do not consider Fayette County a good place to raise a family or retire shouldn’t our property taxes go down because of lower interest in this county? Nothing but over the top increases in tax revenues in towns across the county and property taxes going up across the board. We ought to be riding high, but it seems we of Fayette County are actually hurting.

Are the increased taxes going to improve our schools, our roads or any other services that are supplied by the government institutions in Fayette County? I think most people would respond that we are not seeing any improvement in any services, but a definite big increase in taxation.
