Conservative Changes

For conservative voters the mid-term elections did not go as we all wished.

If we want to do better next time, there are three things we must change.

1. We need to move forward and quit looking back.

Voters know that our nation urgently needs careful consideration of current problems and opportunities.

2. We must stop seeking Donald Trump’s endorsements.

As in most elections, the balance of power was held by middle- of-the-road voters – moderate Republicans, Independents and moderate Democrats. The widely predicted Red Wave failed to occur because a sizable majority of independent voters were repelled by Trump.

3. Ordinary citizens like you and me need to speak forcibly about this to Republican party leaders.

The leadership of the national Republican Party must stop concentrating on the events of the last two years and look toward the present and the future. Because Trump’s personality and convictions are so large, the GOP leadership will certainly not do that rapidly. If they are to do it at all they will need vigorous urging from the GOP rank and file.

Who are the rank and file? You and you and you and you and me.

Who will lead the charge? For several years reliable political polls have reported that about 60% of the U. S. electorate holds conservative views.

We must individually send this message loud and clear – first, to our local Republican leaders, then where possible to state and national leaders. But we must not remain silent.
