Climate Change
Back in the day, climate change meant winter turns into spring, spring turns into summer, summer turns into fall and fall turns into winter.
Let’s face it ladies and gentlemen, summer is here whether we like it or not. It went from pleasant cool days to downright unbearable heat in no time at all. In my opinion, I feel like we, as Texans, actually had a wonderful spring this year. Yes, we were in lockdown due to the coronavirus, but those of us who are fortunate enough to live in the country enjoyed those mild temperatures while working outside or sitting on the porch swing. Climate change is life altering in Texas. When it turns hot, it turns miserably hot.
According to the World Meteorological Organization the hottest recorded air temperature was on July 10, 1913 in Death Valley, California spiking at 134 degrees Fahrenheit. And we think August days are scorching in Texas.
I recently watched a documentary on the coldest inhabited place on earth namely Oymyakon, Russia. The average January temperature is -51.52 degrees Fahrenheit. It is absolutely amazing how those Russian citizens survive on a daily basis.
But, these days, the subject of “climate change” has taken on a whole new meaning. It is a variance in the fundamental behavior of the environment. Climate change is also a change in the earth’s temperature. Many people believe it has something to do with the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Or, possibly climate change has something to do with pollution, population or natural circumstances. The ozone layer, which blocks most solar ultraviolet radiation from entry in the lower atmosphere, has been a big subject for years and years. An international law was formed in 1987 banning some refrigerant and aerosol propellants being released in the air that was causing a hole in the ozone layer.
Climate change has been happening since the Earth was created. Climate consistently changes as our world has changed since the coronavirus pandemic. Yes, summer is upon us whether we are ready or not. It can be a time for very long days or it can be a time for making the most of those longs days by reading a book, soaking in a cool pool, watching a great movie or spending time with the family. Hope you and yours have a great summer. Stay cool and stay safe.
