Carmine Chamber Casino Night Postponed

The 6th Annual Carmine Chamber of Commerce Casino night has been postponed. It is normally held in August, but the chamber voted to reschedule due to COVID-19. The new date will be Oct. 10.

The Chamber also has tee shirts and hats for sale. Both items are a great way to offer support for our “Little city with a big heart.”

Carmine VFD

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department asks everyone to obey the burn ban, which is in effect for Fayette County. This means no burning of any kind.

Since the annual Fireman’s Feast and fundraiser was cancelled, any cash donations are always appreciated. The mailing address is P.O. Box 217, Carmine, TX 78932.

Drill night was cancelled and it has not yet been decided if the regular meeting will be held on July 23.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine ISD will screen 3- and 4-year-old children in the RT-C school district for the Early Childhood Program on Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. until noon at the elementary school located at 608 North Washington Street in Round Top.

Registration for the 2020- 2021 Prekindergarten Class will also be open for students living in the RTC-ISD or are eligible for transfer into the district. A child must be 4 years of age on Sept. 1, 2020 to be eligible.

Round Top-Carmine ISD plans to re-open school on Aug. 19. In the event that there is a campus closure, digital education will be provided.

Students will need to bring a mask for personal use, a personal hand sanitizer for those students sensitive to commercial brands and a plastic water bottle labeled with the student’s name, in addition to other supplies.

Walk for Life

New Beginnings Life Ministries is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 8, with a Walk for Life, Raffle and Chick-fil-A meal from 6:30-8 p.m. at Hohlt Park Amphitheatre in Brenham.

The Walk is from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or $20 for a pack of five, and may be purchased in person or online.

The Chick-fil-A meal box tickets are $10 and include a sandwich, chips and cookie. Tickets must be purchased in advance, by July 31, at the Center at 1016 E Blue Bell RD, Brenham, TX 77833.

If there is a problem due to COVID-19, they will serve the meal as a drive-thru and still hold the drawing.

MLLC News

Saturday worship service with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Holy Communion will be offered using prepackaged wafer and wine kits for both Saturday and Sunday services.

Sunday School is at 9 a.m. Worship service with Holy Communion is at 10 a.m. Pastor Jen Kinsvatter will lead the service. Precautionary guidelines will be followed at both services. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

AA meets Sunday at 5 p.m.

Men in Mission meet Monday at 7 p.m. with their annual Family Night Ice Cream Social.

Visitors’ Center

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Recycling

The Recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics, all colors of glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. It is very helpful to have the recycled items separated. Attendants are available to help unload.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30 to 11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
