Budget Suggestions

To the editor:

Well, the budget process is about over for this year and the Government Entities will be collecting more in tax revenues. Here are some thoughts for next year:

• Stay informed early in the budget process. Look at what projects and expenses are being proposed.

• Talk to the elected officials and ask questions about the budget.

• Review your statements from the Tax Appraisal district with your property evaluations. This is the basis for how much tax we will pay.

• A lower tax rate doesn’t necessarily mean we pay less tax revenue.

• Make sure you are receiving all of the exemptions you are eligible for.

Remember, it’s our money and just because the government entities can collect up to 3.5% more in tax revenues, without an election, it doesn’t mean they have to.
